Josh Golson

Joshua P. Golson was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Clemson University and the University of South Carolina, where he received a BA in Philosophy in 2006 and J.D. from the USC School of Law in 2011. Mr. Golson served as an Assistant Solicitor for the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office from 2012 until 2019 and as a Special Prosecutor until 2020. During that time, he also served as the Special DUI Prosecutor for Richland and Kershaw Counties and in 2017 was recognized as the first annual recipient of SC MADD’s award for DUI Prosecutor of the Year. Mr. Golson also worked to help create the Fifth Circuit DUI Treatment Court Program and thereafter served as a Treatment Court prosecutor and team member throughout his tenure.

Since 2012, Mr. Golson has served as a guest instructor and lecturer for the SC Court Administration, SC Commission on Prosecution Coordination, and the SC Criminal Justice Academy with a particular focus on DUI prosecution, criminal procedure, and victim advocacy.

In 2019, Mr. Golson entered private practice in Columbia, SC, where his practice focused on civil defense litigation in state and federal court, including matters related to law enforcement defense, civil rights litigation, constitutional law, and governmental liability defense. While he represented a wide range of governmental entities and civil servants in civil actions and litigation, his primary focus was the representation of law enforcement agencies and police officers in federal constitutional and state tort claims including matters such as excessive force, false arrest, and malicious prosecution.

In 2023, Mr. Golson shifted the focus of his practice to assist both individuals and families in their pursuit of justice for a broad range of cases involving personal injury and civil rights violations, such as wrongful death, premises liability, and crime victims, as well as collisions with drunk drivers, drugged drivers or impaired drivers, truck accidents, tractor trailer collisions, motorcycle collisions, and traumatic brain injuries. Mr. Golson also accepts a wide range of other cases on behalf of individuals and families who suffer injury from the negligence or misconduct of others, including matters related to nursing home abuse, nursing home neglect, day care abuse, dog bites, burn victims, drowning victims, and other matters.

Mr. Golson is admitted to the South Carolina bar, as well as the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Mr. Golson also serves as a council member for the Trial and Appellate Advocacy Section of the South Carolina Bar (2023-present).

As part of his ongoing commitment to fight and eliminate the catastrophic injuries and suffering inflicted by drunk drivers and other impaired drivers, Mr. Golson also continues to serve as a member and board chair for the South Carolina chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). His volunteer service is informed by first-hand experience with the devastating effects caused by drunk driving offenders and Mr. Golson works diligently to assist victims and their families in their pursuit for justice.
